Development of medical information management process for pediatric patients at Panyananthaphikkhu Chonprathan Medical Center at Srinakharinwirot University

Objectives: The purposes of this research are to study the problems, needs, and the directions for the development in managing pediatric patients’ medical information related to medical records in the service process. The operation of information medicine, statistics, information technology, and management for information and service operations of pediatric patients was done by studying the personnel’s medical records and those involved in pediatrics such as doctors, nurses, and multidisciplinary medicine working at Panyananthaphikkhu Chonprathan Medical Center at Srinakharinwirot University.

Materials and Methods: This research a mixed method research the data were gathered from 91 people by questionnaire and interviewing key informants who are supervisors or representatives of medical records, statistical and informatics, and 10 persons from Panyananthaphikkhu Chonprathan Medical Center at Srinakharinwirot University. The statistics and methods that used were mean, standard deviation, Analysis of Variance and content data analysis.

Results: The results showed the problems and development needs in the development of pediatric patient medical information management. Overall, all aspects were at a high level. The results of the study on the problem were found that the operational problems in information technology had the highest level (x̄=3.73, SD=0.698). It was followed by management problems for information and service operations (x̄=3.60, SD=0.715). In terms of operation side, statistical information (x̄=3.57, SD=0.753), delay in preparing pediatric medical records (x̄=3.54 SD=0.860), and medical records in the service process (x̄=3.52, SD=0.751), respectively. As for the study on demand, it was found that the management for information and service operations was the highest (x̄=4.05, SD=0.557), followed by the need for medical statistical information. (x̄=4.02, SD=0.588) and information technology needs (x̄=3.98, SD=0.478) and medical records in the service process (x̄=3.97, SD=0.657), respectively. The important guidelines from the study are the development of information technology equipment, software development effective management of information in operations, and to support the development of the capacity of the personnel concerned to be able to work effectively.

Conclusion: The development of pediatric patient medical information encountered problems that affect the development process, namely the insufficiency of computers and equipment in use, insufficiency of information medical personnel to support users, affecting service delivery. delayed, insufficient medical statistics personnel. The need for development is the number of personnel sufficient to provide services to reduce the waiting time for service, the adequacy of the use of computers and equipment. To help support the work and potential of personnel to be fast. From the problems and needs, there are guidelines for developing pediatric medical informatics management by focusing on equipment and tools in information systems and improving program systems that respond to use in hospital information systems. To have a plan to improve the program to be up-to-date as well as to develop the operational procedures of the personnel to have more potential and efficiency.
